I’ve already posted this in the Group Stage Round 1 thread but thought it might be worth posting in its own thread to make things a bit easier to navigate.
With Group Stage Round 1 now complete, it’s time for an update on how the early standings are looking.
In the first 12 games we’ve seen 34 goals, averaging out at around 2.8 per game - there will be a few who will be hopeful their pre-tournament predictions for total goals in the tournament might earn them some points if that rate of scoring keeps up.
Last night’s late winner for Portugal earned lots of you an extra point, with seven correct predictions of the 2-1 scoreline. At the other end of the scale, Slovakia’s shock win over Belgium was the fixture that proved toughest to call, with just one participant calling it correctly.
Portugal also overtook Germany (68%) to finish with the highest percentage of possession at a massive 69%. However, proving that ball hogging doesn’t always win you the game, one of the teams who ran them closest was Ukraine with 66% possession but getting walloped 3-0 by Romania in the process.
In terms of the standings for the predictions league, it’s El Diablo who has taken an early lead. As well as collecting a joint highest points tally of 12 (along with Nathan) from the score predictions, Mr Diablo also bagged an extra 2 points for correctly identifying Portugal as the team who would have the most possession.
There were also extra points picked up in the random categories by Beesley (also for Portugal finishing with the most possession), Campo and Helky (for correctly predicting there would be 2 penalties awarded in this round), Coolcol and garyc (for correctly predicting 17 shots on target in Group D). Nobody plumped for a first minute goal, so Albania’s rapid start against Italy meant that no points were awarded in that category, and while a few came close, the 13 corners in Group B also meant that no extra points were awarded in that category.
Standings after Group Stage Round 1:
1. El Diablo, 14 points

Here is an update on how the leaderboard looks following the conclusion of Group Stage Round 2. And as a reminder, if you haven’t yet submitted your Round 3 predictions then be sure to get them in by 8pm on Sunday when Group A fixtures kick off.
Round 2 proved tougher to call, with lower scores pretty much across the board compared to Round 1. Depressingly, one of the more predictable outcomes was England’s underwhelming draw with Denmark, with four people calling the 1-1 scoreline correctly. Six of you also called Belgium’s 2-0 win correctly.
The highest scorer for Round 2 was the only person who did manage to record a higher score than Round 1, aburton0123 with 11 points for the round.
In the random categories, there were points for those who backed goals deep into injury time, with aburton and Andy Proctor both predicting the 95th minute goals that in the end both Albania and Serbia scored. Nathan picked up 2 points for predicting 18 subs in Group E, and doubled up by correctly predicting the 57-43 possession split in the Spain v Italy game (along with Campo).
Austria’s Arnautovic was the oldest goalscorer at 35, leaving everyone empty handed, although Albania’s 34 year old Gjasula really went for it by scoring at both ends.
Leaderboard:
1= aburton0122, 21 points

Here is the leaderboard update following the end of the Group Stages.
Thanks to UEFA’s new tournament format with most third place teams getting through to the knockouts, we saw some incredibly boring games with plenty happy to play for the draw. Nine of the 12 fixtures finished either 0-0, 1-0 or 1-1, with only 20 goals scored in total across the 12 fixtures.
It all led to some unpredictable outcomes with three fixtures (England v Slovenia, Austria v Netherlands and Georgia v Portugal) where no points at all were picked up in the predictions. There were a couple of others were only a small handful of points were dished out too.
In the end, it was Gary who took the crown as the highest points scorer for the round with 11, correctly identifying three of the round’s 1-1 draws, as well as picking up an extra four points in the random categories. His nearest competitor was Nathan who picked up 10, including 5 in the random categories.
Nobody went quite high enough in terms of number of fouls in the Group A games with a total of 55 committed, but Nathan and Richard both picked up a point for the nearest guesses of 52.
Aburton, Andy Proctor and Beesley all went close and picked up a point for their guesses of 40 shots in Group A games, where there were actually 42 in the end.
Gary and Nathan both picked up 4 points with correct answers in both the youngest goalscorer and number of own goals categories. There were three 23 year olds who netted in this round, but nobody younger, and the Netherlands’ Malen’s own goal was the only one of the round.
Most of you went for Albania or Georgia to have the lowest share of possession, but in fact it was Slovenia with just 28%…just a shame England did absolutely nothing with their 72% share in that game.
While cards didn’t feature in this round’s categories, the truly astonishing EIGHTEEN cards handed out in last night’s Czechia v Turkey game may yet end up influencing the outcome of the pre-tournament predictions for total numbers of yellows and reds.
Leaderboard:
1. Nathan, 31 points
2. Garyc, 28
3= aburton0122, 27
3= Andy Proctor, 27

Time for an update on the leaderboard following the conclusion of the Last 16 ties.
Any big shocks that looked to be on the cards were averted in the end thanks to England’s last gasp turnaround and the penalty saving heroics of Portugal’s Diogo Costa. Holders Italy might argue that their elimination at this stage should qualify as a shock, but in reality Switzerland were deserved winners and will surely pose some problems for England in their Quarter Final.
In the predictions, Nathan extended his lead at the top of the standings by finishing as this round’s highest scorer with 13, largely thanks to picking up an excellent seven points in the random categories. Nathan correctly identified that there would be just one penalty shootout, two goals scored after the 90th minute, and that Georgia would finish with the fewest shots on target (impressively finishing with one goal despite having zero shots on target, thanks to Le Normand’s own goal). El Diablo was the closest challenger, finishing with 12 points for the round.
Three fixtures in particular proved tough to call with just one manager collecting any points from their predictions in each of them. Richard was the only manager to correctly call a Turkey win and got the 2-1 scoreline spot on. Likewise, Gary was the only one who saw England’s need for extra time coming, picking up two points for predicting the 1-1 scoreline after normal time. And Graham was the only one to pick up a point in the Switzerland v Italy game, correctly calling the Swiss win.
First goalscorers didn’t prove to be a rich stream of points for most, but there were points handed out for those who plumped for Havertz and Gakpo to net first in their respective games.
Leaderboard:
1. Nathan, 44 points
2. Garyc, 38
3. El Diablo, 36
4= aburton0122, 33
4= Campo, 33
5. Beesley, 31

The Quarter Finals are done so it’s time for another leaderboard update.
As you’d expect with the tournament reaching the business end, it was a nervy round of games, with extra time needed in three of the games, and penalties in two of them.
Graham was the highest scorer this time round with 6, 4 of which came from calling the score lines correctly in both the Netherlands v Turkey and England v Switzerland games. Nathan was closest with 5, again with 4 picked up from the same two fixtures.
First goalscorers proved very hard to call this time around, with just one point picked up across all four fixtures - that one went to El Diablo for backing Embolo to open the scoring against England.
In the random categories, there were no in-game penalties so it was just the decisive shootout misses from Portugal’s Joao Felix and Switzerland’s Manuel Akanji - Graham picked up a point for his closest guess of one missed penalty there.
The fastest goal came much later than anyone predicted, being scored by Turkey in the 35th minute. Campo’s guess of the 12th minute picked up the one point for closest guess.
The total number of substitutes was definitely influenced by the extra subs afforded by the three games that went to Extra Time. There were 41 in total so Richard’s guess of 33 picked up the point for closest guess.
Beesley got two points for calling the age gap of 11 years between the youngest and oldest goalscorers absolutely correctly. Germany’s Wirtz being the youngest at 21, and the Netherlands’ De Vrij oldest at 32.
Colin also got two points for identifying Spain v Germany as the game with the most fouls, which it was by a distance in the with 39, compared to the next closest game where there were just 23.
Leaderboard:
1. Nathan, 49 points
2. Garyc, 41
3. El Diablo, 38
4= aburton0122, 36
4= Campo, 36
5= Beesley, 34
5= GraHewitt, 34

Here is the penultimate leaderboard update, following a great couple of Semi Finals. Just the predictions for the Final to come, as well as any points picked up from the pre-tournament predictions.
Beesley was the highest points scorer for this round, picking up 6 for correctly calling England’s 2-1 win, the total of ten cards across both matches and (perhaps surprisingly) Spain finishing with the fewest number of shots. Nathan and Colin weren’t far behind, picking up 5 each for the round - Colin calling both scorelines correctly, and Nathan picking up four of his five points in the random categories.
Leaderboard:
1. Nathan, 54 points
2. Garyc, 44
3. Beesley, 40
4. El Diablo, 38
5= aburton0122, 36
5= Campo, 36
6. GraHewitt, 35
7. Coolcol, 32
8. Richard, 27
