I've no dog in the race but that 7-0 win for Bristol looked as dodgy as a £7 note. The average age of the, much changed, Scunthorpe team was 20 and included 7 teens in the squad and a 17yr old in goal. Bristol got exactly the score they needed to achieve automatic promotion over Northampton, who won 3-0. I am very surprised bookmakers aren't calling for an enquiry, I suppose the betting market was fairly small.

I remember playing Saturday football 25 years ago, we had 2 games left and needed a plus 12 goal dif to finish runners up
We won 7-0 and then 5-0, the league Secretary rang me up and accused us of match fixing
It’s the only time I’ve ever called someone a c*** to their face lol

It is a bit suss indeed. They need to win by 5 goals more than Northampton who won 3-1, thus the 7-0 against Scunny being the exact amount they needed. How very convenient...

I do regularly see an ex Scunny United player who still works there and he has told me various details about the running of the club. They are getting relegated out of the football league entirely with good reason from what I hear. Don't be expecting them to come back up any time soon. In fact don't be surprised if they drop from the National League as well.

Thanks Tom, I certainly didn't expect anyone to be able to offer inside information but that's fascinating. I certainly will be keeping Scunthorpe in mind over the coming year or two, with interest.

Well that's interesting and dodgy as heck. What are the theories then - Bristol Rovers paid a backhander to someone at Scunny? Scunthorpe wanted to go down?

        Well Scunny fielded 7 teenagers....

I read yesterday that Northampton have logged an official complaint type thing.

My problem with it Kris, was that Scunthorpe were guilty of not competing, with the end result being a very unlikely scoreline. Why they chose not to compete, I can't say. It could be simply they are choatic and/or incompetent or something else entirely. However, I think they should face serious investigation and as a minimum, sanctions for not competing, because this gets down to the most basic issue... that of the integrity of the game. In this particular instance, it has already had significant consequences and may have very serious consequence for Northampton if they don't get promotion via playoffs.

Looks a bit suspect but then again, give Scunny their due, at least they're trying out their new play formation and team before next season. I reckon they treated this game as their first friendly.
