I thought this was up to the manager whether he picked the said player without him being withdrawn automatically and replaced with someone of a lesser rating as I’m actually confused by this

Yes it's a new thing Gary. I'm sure I mentioned it on two successive front page messages that you cannot pick a player with a status of LOA 1 as it triggers a bug since the player will have already gone back to the parent club before the match is played.

I have updated the short rulebook that is sent to new managers already and plan to update the full rulebook this weekend
