So,
what exactly IS PBM??
PBM
or play-by-mail is used to describe any game that is played
through the postal system (snail mail) as opposed to PBEM,
which is played via email. The great advantage is that instead
of playing on your own or against a computer, you compete
against real life people from all over the world.
How does it work?
All PBM games, including Summit Soccer, generally
work the same. You will issue instructions to the people
controlling the game on what is called a TURNSHEET. All the
players in the game will need to return the turnsheets by a
given DEADLINE date at which time they will be processed and
the results sent back you to with a fresh Turnsheet. This
process will carry on until you want to stop playing. It's
that simple!!
So
what is Summit Soccerleague?
This
is a game run as above, in which you take control of a
completely fictitious football (soccer) Club. Running a
successful Club DOESN'T just involve picking 11 players for
each match!! You'll be faced with any number of decisions each
turn from major ones such as upgrading the main Stand in
your Stadium through to how many programmes to print for each
Home game and even if you should sack the Caterers who have
been accused of serving meat pies without any meat!!! (Tricky
one that!). All decisions have their own easy-to-follow ORDER
CODE, which you write on the Turnsheet, and are fully
explained in the Rulebook.
How
often are results processed?
Approximately every 10 days. You can check your results
earlier on the Website using the 'Results Service' which will
be updated as soon as your league is processed
Is
there an email only or internet option?
You can send your turns in by email or using the online
submission facility but results packages are always sent out
through the postal system. Quite frankly there's nothing like
having a results package delivered through your letter box but
there is also an online version of the game which is played
entirely over the internet. You will find the web site for
Summit Soccer Online at www.summitsoccer.co.uk
I
don't live in the UK - can I still play?
Yes!!
Unlike some other UK based games we very much welcome overseas
players as we think it makes our leagues more interesting and
varied.Your results packages will be sent out to you by Air
Mail but in order to make the deadlines you'll probably need
to return your turnsheet by FAX, by EMAIL or via THE
WEB.
How
much does it cost?
We like to keep things simple so we have a flat rate charge of
UKPOUNDS £2.35 per game turn. This is slightly higher for
non-UK managers to cover the extra costs of airmailing your
results packages. You can purchase a Season Ticket to manage a
club for an entire season (33 game turns) or a Half Season
Ticket (17 turns) at greatly reduced prices. We GUARANTEE that there are NO 'extras' or
'luxuries' (as some other games call them!) to pay for no
matter how many matches you are playing in a week! There are
NO other hidden charges!
Do
you take credit cards?
All major cards are accepted over the internet using Paysystems
secure servers. You can pay
online using the PayPal automated payment system. In either case
just click on the Online Payments link to the left and follow the on
screen instructions. Payments can also be made by cheque / Postal Order payable to 'Summit
Soccer' or
by cash (not recommended). We also accept payments in the form of
unused UK 1st class postage stamps. Payments sent from abroad should
be by International Money Order or the equivalent and in UK Pounds
Sterling.
What are the game prizes?
Most of our Managers would find the glory of winning to be
enough!! Just in case it isn't though, Summit Soccerleague
gives away what is probably the BEST selection of prizes of
ANY UK PBM Company including fantastic TROPHIES for the two
Cup Winners, Championship SHIELDS for the four Divisional
winners and hand framed MEDALS for all runners up aswell as
FREE CREDITS. If you prefer then prizes can be exchanged for
free credit. In addition to this there are small prizes such
as pens and keyrings to be won EVERY week
in our FREE-to-enter Forecast Five predictions game.
How can I find
out more?
If you have any
questions then please get in touch by email. Also a good way to find
out about the game is to ask other managers. The game forums are a
relaxed and friendly place to chat about the game. You will find the
links in the Support Options section accessed in the left hand menu
bar.
