International Hopeful

I remember not so long ago that there were grumblings that there was too much cash in the Summit Economy.
I'm flat broke in the lower Leagues in both League 1 and 2 and have been for awhile.
Hey, certainly not complaining....just wondering if anyone else is feeling the pinch the Division 2 or 3.
Every 2nd week I loose about a million pounds at my away games and nearly break even at my home games.
This week my gate revenue for my glamour tie away to Mettlers was a paltry £53,715.
I think Steve has got things just about right... It does make the game more realistic but it does lessen your ability to join in the transfer market. Maybe we have to get a bit more crafty ourselves.
As the saying goes - It's tough at the top but even tougher at the bottom!

Soon as I took over in league 2 I knew this would be a long term problem, when you take over a team so late into a game the wage bill has to be massive to compete but you start off with a 17,500 holding ground and a shit following, tough

well i think its the same for every division i played away last match and got 450k in receipts wage bill 1.75m so there's big dent there -1.3m i think its a case of teams having much better players now so there wages go up accordingly div3 with player rated around 38 paying wages of 90k a week its hard to make money with gate receipts so low in the bottom 2 divisions.
just a sign of the times when you cant even off load players rated around 33-35.

It does make league one/two interesting. I try and make sure most of my players are around 28ish in age as it means the wages are lower and they tend to go cheaper on the auction list, it does mean when the need comes to sell it can be hard to shift. With Westeros in div two i am breaking even over a two week home/away fixture list but I have 5 young players who will be first team next season and will nearly double my wage bill when renewal comes up..... Might be a case of looking to swap them in two for ones but we will see. A decent cup and trophy run will help that with gates and prize money.
It was the case that i could buy players at auction knowing i had players i could sell to cover the bid if it won but with it not being so easy to shift players that strategy is risky.
all adds to the massive complexity of such a simple game and why its so addictive. Not much better than watching lunchtime football analyzing a new summit turn!

Great points, anyway makes for an interesting game and you definitely have to work harder at it. On the plus side plenty of bargains to be had one way or the other you can soon build a decent side.

I'd have more oldies with higher ratings and younger less rated players in the transfer market to make managers think more long term

Interesting points all of them. It would be even more interesting to hear from Steve what he's done to balance things.
Well since you asked.... to be honest not a lot as I always monitor the in game cash. I'm sure I made the point on another thread, I can't remember which one, with examples that there are only a handful of rich clubs that somewhat distort the overall picture. When you get the stat sheet Highest Bank Balance and see clubs with 150 million plus in the Bank you assume that all clubs have that but actually that is very misleading.
I remember a few years ago talking to a (real life) non league club chairman. He said even if he was able to double his managers wage budget there is no guarantee he would get better players... he may just get the same players and be paying them twice as much. It's a loose analogy as the Summit game is more structured to avoid exploitation but it's relevant in that if the in game cash flow was increased probably the only result would be increased auction bids. You can't pay players more nor offer silly bids to other managers for players so the Auction List would be the only outlet.
I am always open to suggestions and I genuinely mean that as to how to improve the financial aspect of the game. I do control recommended admission prices, prize money, external transfer offers etc so it isn't hard to affect the amount of money in the game. The only thing I can't control is the max auction bids.
One thing I already am thinking about for next season is to substantially increase the prize money for the first couple of Rounds of the Cup, even making it more than progressing past that. So a lower division side progressing to Round 3 would get a big boost. Trouble is that would make the rich clubs who do the same even richer so you can see nothing is really that simple.
Cheers.... Steve

Yes PC I agree. I try to do this already but maybe I'm being too subtle and it isn't noticeable?
Most of the high rated old players on the auction tend to demand really high wages on a long contract meaning you are stuck with them as a buying clubs directors won't sanction a deal if you decide to sell
Most young players are fairly low rated and need game time or coaching. I do throw in the odd high rated young player to get the rich clubs excited and get some money off them 🙂
As said I am always open to ideas as to how I can make the auction better for everyone.
Cheers.... Steve

This thread runs the risk of becoming extremely geeky (which would be great!) and makes me think that the main issues are similar to those out here in the UK/World economy.
The game in general (not looking at individual clubs) has one main form of cash inflow (gate receipts) and one main outflow (player wages). There's a few others in each case but those are the main ones. The ideal for stability are that they balance. If the gate receipts are the higher one we see auction prices spiralling (inflation) and if the wages are generally higher we could see players being sold off and falling in value.
I would have thought Steve that your job of getting them in line is pretty difficult, and the main issue that you can control are the standard gate prices for each division. So, maybe it's an imperfect art. And I imagine you don't have data sources to help you make that decision.
Interesting......

With a league 3 and 1 coming to a close would another way of boosting money for lower league sides me to close the gap in the sponsor and league prize money? if we are thinking part of the issue is a lack of bunce at the lower division clubs?
Any way of easily changing how much money a promotions officer brings back? 200k is starting to look light for league 3 teams...
Perhaps more "overseas" bids for teams lower down? Only had one of those all season between 7 clubs, having them more frequently lower down the pyramid might help too?

Perhaps you could split the sponsorship into 3 payments rather than 2, that way if you run a lower league team then at least you will have a bit of dosh later on
Perhaps you could pay on week 5/15/25
